Repairing broken Rackets

Rackets break sometimes. Mostly in double, if the partners do not agree who is responsible.

I have worked out different methods to make some broken rackets function again.
However, the repair is rather time-consuming and repays only for own need. It would exceed the new acquisition.
Besides, the old string must be removed and later a new one be raised.

The different methods have the following pre- / disadvantages:

Guide br. Rackets 01:
- very time consuming.
- 4-5 gramme heavier than original.
- partly expensive components are required.
- optically not so nicely.
+ very durably.

Guide br. Rackets 02:
- partly at the side less loadable.
+ only 2-3 gramme heavier than original.
+ optically very good result.
+ quick realisation.

Guide br. Rackets 03:
+ very durably.
± 3-4 gramme heavier than original.
+ optically very good result.
+ quick realisation.

On the left some rackets with multiple break are not more repairable. To the right only 1x-broken racket is able of reincarnation.

These 42 rackets had broken all before. They weigh approx. 3-5 grammes more than original by the repair. In the meantime, I have refined my technology so far, that the former point of fracture is hardly visible and amounts to the excess weight only 3 grammes on average.

Wish you a lot of fun with the reproduction.

11 kg is the strongest i tryed.

Could you provide the details of the asian repair guy.

No, i don´t rember, cause i do it my own (cheap) way.

I met a guy who claims to melt and mend racquets (don't know thAre e detailed process) , but he takes guarantee that mended portions woulnt break after repairing.

If it is not too expensive, than just try it.
I don´t know that method.

Bye, Ralf

Are you familiar with carbonizing of a broken graphite racquet. I met a guy who claims to melt and mend racquets (don't know the detailed process) , but he takes guarantee that mended portions woulnt break after repairing.

Is it possible to repair such an racquet professionally apart from the above three methods ?

A few years ago I saw a link to a dealer (I believe in Asia). Included shipping costs and restringing, it is too expensive compared to a new racket.

Ralf: I have a question for you, the racket I am planning to repair is not fully broken but cracked, and for using this method the two sides has to be separated, how do I separate two sides, should I cut it or how.

I have tested various methods:
Sawing, diagonally cut with microflex (dremel) and at least manual breaking.
The simplest method (breaking) gave the best durability after repair. You will get the most overlapping material for glueing the nails.
So I recommend gently breaking the racket.

bye,
Ralf

I have repiared voltric 70 with this method. Strung the racket within 45 mins of repairs and it is ready to play. I measured the weight before it was 80 gms and after repairs 83 gms. I didn't use matchstick though. I have used super glue and little file to smoothen the surface. After that I used acrlyic paint to color the area.

I didn't notice any difference while playing with this racket. I have another broken racket voltric 80 (cracked) that I am planning to repair using this method.

Since I have used this method and I stand by it.
